Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled a few of the most frequently asked questions to assist with your trip planning or pitch booking.

  • Q: "I have a tent box or roof tent, what kind of pitch should I book? "

A: For this type of accommodation you would need to book a campervan or caravan pitch. If the tent extends out to more than the width of the vehicle (over 2.5/3m in total width) then you will need a large vehicle (caravan) pitch. Please note that if you need to peg guy ropes from the tent box you will need rock pegs as the vehicle pitches are on hard gravel.

  • Q: " Do you allow 'car camping'?"

A: Yes you may "camp" in your car, please book a campervan pitch for this. You cannot sleep in your car in the car park it must be booked pitch.

  • Q: " Can I use a fire pit?"

A: Yes you may use a fire pit if the pit is operated safely and is suffienciently raised of the grass so as not to burn the grass.

  • How powerful are your EHU's?

Not very powerful. They only provide 6A of power. They are designed for light use. We have included some detailed guidance on this page.

  • Q: "What kind of cable do I need for your electric hook ups?"

A: Ideally you will have a 25m cable as each hook up point has 4 sockets on it shared by 4 pitches, some pitches are a bit of distance from the hook up point.

  • Q: "Is there anywhere to eat out nearby?"

A: Yes you have some fabulous options right on our doorstep. The Inn on The Tay, The Ballingtaggart Hotel and the Highland Chocolatier are all just a couple of minutes walk away form the campsite. Check their websites for opening times and to book evening meals.

  • Q: "Can I rent kayaks or book water activities with you?"

A: No. This is a common misconception. The campsite is owned and operated by Paddle Scotland (the governing body of paddle sports in Scotland). We do not offer activities here at the site. However, our very close neighbours The Rafting Company do. This beautiful area is rich in outdoor activities and we will send you a list of local providers before your arrival so you can book ahead.

  • Q: "Is there a bus service from Grandtully to Pitlochry?"

A: Yes. You can catch a bus from outdide the Inn on The Tay to Pitlochry. Some services have a bit of a wait in Ballinluig which is where you need to change for Pitlochry. Check Traveline Scotland for full timetable info.

  • Q: "Can I walk to Pitlochry from the campsite?"

A: Yes. It's a decent walk. About 2.5 - 3 hours over hills and off the beaten track.

  • Q: "Can I walk to Aberfeldy from the campsite?"

A: Yes. Again it's a decent walk. About 2 - 2.5 hours along the old railway line and then through a field.
