Campsite Development

UPDATE May 16, 2024:

Just a quick update to say that we have now opened our online booking system. Pitches are available to book from the 28th of June.

Things to Note:

  • Although facilities have been improved we have held our campsite pitch prices at the level they were prior to closing. We have listened to valuable feedback from our guests and based on that feedback we have lowered a couple of prices for additional guests. The price of additional adults has come down from £9.50 to £7.00 and stays for children aged 12 to 17 have come down to match the price of stays for children aged 5 to 12 (children under 5 are free to stay as always).

  • Our pitch layout has changed a little due to the new buildings so you may want to take a tour on our new Google pitch map to get your bearings. You can even click on a specific pitch on the map and follow the link to book your preferred spot (if it's available).

  • Previously we required full payment at the time of booking but we recognise that sometimes it's more convenient to pay a small deposit and settle the rest up later, now you can. When booking you will be asked for a 15% deposit with 85% due later. You can still pay in full at the time of booking if you prefer but you now have the flexibility of both options.

Hope to see you soon!

UPDATE May 14, 2024:

Hello!

I am Carol, the new General Manager at Grandtully Station Park. I joined the Paddle Scotland team in April and since then I have been working to get the site open again as soon as possible. Although I have only been on the team for a short time one of the first things I noticed was how well loved and greatly missed the site is by many people. It is a real privilege to be looking after such a long running site that holds such a special place in the hearts of many people.  My background is in hospitality and outdoor activity provision and I think both will be very useful here. I want to thank well wishers and regular visitors for their emails checking in on how the development is going. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for your continued patience while the last phases of construction are going on. The opening timescale is slightly later than we had planned but we are confident that our new improved facilities will be worth it, and that our users will see the benefit of the work straight away.

We will update this page and our social media channels with the exact date of opening as soon as we have it. Anyone who has enquired by email will also get a courtesy email from me letting them know that the booking system is open.

I have included some updates on how the work is progressing below.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Best wishes

Carol

Campsite Building
Externally the new overnight building, which we are calling the 'Campsite Building', is almost there.  However, inside there are quite a few bits still to be finished off. This building has two sections, the upper section serves the tent pitches and the lower serves the campervan and caravan pitches. The building has 14 self contained showers and toilets with sinks, 4 of which are fully accessible plus a Changing Places Toilet which includes a shower. Again this building is kept cosy with underfloor heating and a modern ventilation and heat recovery system. A new waste water processing facility will take the waste water from this building and turn it into freshwater here on site, helping to lessen our impact on the environment and waterways.

As you can see from these photos the surrounding ground has gone through a lot due to the machinery and vehicle traffic on the grass during construction. The bulk of the work to bring this back and add in new hedges and fences required for safety has been held back due to weather. We are pleased that the latest spate of good days have allowed us to get fencing, planting and seeding done, now we just need the right mixture of weather for our new hedges, and more importantly our grass to take hold.

Green Building
Work in the 'Green Building' is almost completed. This original building may look familiar from the outside, but inside it has been fully refurbished to provide greatly improved facilities to those who visit Grandtully during the day for paddling etc but don't necessarily stay overnight. The building now has new toilets (including 2 accessible, 1 with baby changing facilities), showers and changing rooms, all with underfloor heating and a modern ventilation and heat recovery system. You may also spot new solar panels on the roof which will help to make the building more energy efficient. One of the key things Paddle Scotland members have requested is a separate building for day use versus people staying overnight and this newly renovated ‘Green Building’ which is outwith the campsite meets this need.

Training Building

The last building to be completed will be the new 'Training Building' which we hope will be a fantastic resource for groups, courses and events. The building has been specifically designed to incorporate a "wet classroom" which we hope will be invaluable for water based courses and groups, all year round. This space will provide a cosy place to dry off and review following sessions, or a place to gather, brief and plan prior to getting on the water. The building has been designed to include a drying room too which will be very handy for these groups and courses. This smart looking building will again be equipped with underfloor heating throughout and solar panels. This was the last piece of the development puzzle that fell into place with funding being secured for this as recently as January this year.

UPDATE August 28, 2023:

Work is on schedule with the new overnight shower and toilet block as well as the refurbishment of the existing building to provide day-use changing rooms, toilets and showers.

The photo shows the recently constructed retaining wall for the new building. Eventually the ground will be put back this side of the wall so that people camping on the raised grass area will be able to walk into the first floor of this building. This minimises the space taken up by this facility building.

UPDATE July 20, 2023:

Work started late June on the construction of new shower and toilet facilities at the site and the refurbishment of the existing building as described here.

Currently, the existing building has been stripped out, and foundations are being dug for the new building.

In the meantime, this means that unfortunately the campsite remains closed and no overnight stays are possible. Alternative, nearby sites are linked
here. The work is due to be completed by the end of February 2024 - we will keep you informed of progress.

Development Plans

Our long term plan is to improve the site and facilities by refurbishing the existing building to create more toilets, changing cubicles and baby changing facilities for public use. We also hope to build a new campsite facilities building further down the site which will include a "Changing Places" facility, showers and family changing rooms.

The car park will be expanded to create additional parking spaces. That means it’s more likely that a dog walker, or a paddler, or a visitor can be sure of getting a space in the car park.

We have installed electric vehicle charging points and will be installing e-bike charging and other bike facilities including a shelter, repair tools and a bike wash.

The plan is also to include a further building to house a drying room, classroom for outdoor activities/courses and a small admin office.

Following feedback from guests we also plan to upgrade some of the electric hookups, which are all rated at 6 Amp.

We have attracted several grants for this development. Please watch this space for news.
